Staff Registered Dietition/Coordinator Nurse Educators Location Initial assessment is held in the Diabetes Education Room at MMH. All other classes are offered in the conference room unless indicated otherwise. Scheduling Please call (906) 387-4110 x. 141 to schedule your class. If you cannot keep an appointment, please call to cancel. Registration When arriving at the hospital for the first appointment, please go to the Admitting Office located by the front lobby entrance. You do not need to register at the Admitting Office for any of the other classes. Cost Insurance companies are recognizing the importance of Diabetes Education to help prevent long-term complications. Most insurance companies are covering a portion or most of the cost after your deductible is met. Check with your insurance company to see if they cover Diabetes Education. If you do not have insurance, please call to find alternative ways to receive Diabetes Education. We will be glad to assist you. MMH Diabetes Support GroupFacilitator: Paula Ackerman, (906) 387-4110 x. 141 DietaryMMH provides meal service to the visitors of patients. The cost is $4.00 for lunch, which includes soup and sandwich. Dinner costs $6.00, and contains a salad, entree, and desert. MMH also provides "discharge meals" for patients leaving hospital that are unable to provide meals for themselves, the cost is $3.50 per meal. Emergency DepartmentMMH provides 24 hour Emergency Room services for Alger County. The emergency room is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week with on call medical staff providing services. Please visit the emergency room if you have any of the following: heart attack or stroke symptoms (chest pain, severe abdominal pain, dizziness numbness in face, neck, arm or leg, sudden severe headache, sudden blurred vision or difficulty speaking), head injury or broken bones, sudden, severe headache, severe shortness of breath, seizure of loss of consciousness, uncontrolled bleeding, major burns, poisoning or suspected overdose, severe reaction to an insect bite, medication or food, or trauma. The following fees apply when obtaining copies of your medical record: $20.00 for the first 20 pages, $.50 per page for pages 21-50 and $.20 per page for pages 51 and over. Nursing ServicesMMH provides outpatient services in addition to their inpatient services. Respite is a program designed to give short term assistance to homebound caregivers and their loved ones on a case by case basis. This is not a physician based program. Contact Christi Salo at (906) 387-4110 x. 116 for more information. Inpatient services include Swingbeds: a short term stay for patients needing rehab after a hospital stay. Acute care: a nursing unit is provided for individuals who need inpatient hospitalization for medical, surgical and pedietric patients. All active medical staff provides services. Nutritional TherapyThe Nutritional Therapy program provides up to 3 hours of nutritional counseling for persons with diabetes or kidney disease who are enrolled in Medicare. Do you or someone you know have trouble with any of the following daily activities?: Eating, Personal hygiene, Dressing, Homemaking, Consumer skills, Job Duties, School tasks, Leisure or play activities. Are these activities troublesome to you because of: Muscle weakness, Abnormal muscle tone, Balance problems, Join or muscle pain, Limited joint motion, Clumsiness or in-coordination, Memory problems, Visual problems, Decreased energy? Occupational Therapy may be able to help you through evaluating your needs and providing you what you need to be able to do those daily activities again, such as teaching you exercise program, new ways to do things, and/or providing equipment to make it easier. This is a head to toe exercise program in warm water to stretch and strengthen. Classes run September - May or June continuously in 6 week sessions. $30.00 for 6 weeks, 2 days weekly for 1 hour at the Comfort inn in Wetmore, MI. Call the Clinic at 387-5382 for current schedule. Physical TherapyPhysical Therapy is designed to assist adults and children overcome physical disabilities. Do you or someone you now have one of the following: Muscular or skeletal pain, Decreased strength, Decreased joint motion, Trouble waking or moving around, Balance problems, Clumsiness or incoordination, Decreased endurance/energy, Other physical limitations due to injury or illness? Then Physical Therapy may be able to help through evaluating your needs and providing services to return normal functioning, improve mobility, and achieve greater independence. Some ways they may do that are: Exercise (strengthening and/or flexibility), Manual therapy, Modalities (ultrasound, heat, cold, massage), Preventative and maintenance education, Recommendation of aides (walkers, canes, braces). Sleep StudyA sleep study is a comprehensive overnight sleep-cycle evaluation, which monitors sleep patterns, severity of snoring, apnea frequency, blood-oxygen saturation, heart rhythms and brain wave patterns (EEG). Sleep disorder treatment depends on the severity of sleep apnea
diagnosis. Often the solution is a combination of treatments
ranging from weight loss and dental devices to surgery that

It allows you to be at your medical appointment without traveling to your specialist’s office. Using video technology, you will be able to see and hear your doctor.
