What is new at MMH?

In 2008 Munising Memorial Hospital will open the doors to a brand new, state-of-the art, health care facility.  At fifty-nine thousand square feet, the facility incorporates all aspects of patient care under one roof.  Read further to see how MMH has changed to further serve your health care needs.

Completely digitalized, the radiology department will include a general X-ray room, CT, Floroscopy, Ultrasound, Dexascan and mammography. In the future, a mobile MRI unit, will further enhance the opportunity for diagnostic testing to be completed locally.

The operating room will consist of one main suite, a scope room and a five bed recovery area.  The new OR allows for same day outpatient surgery. currently, MMH has an Orthopaedic Surgeon, General Surgeon, and Ophthalmologist on it's Medical Staff.

Laboratory services were designed to accommodate two private drawing rooms and several upgrades to equipments, computers and space.

The Outpatient Rehabilitation department will move into the new building, allowing easier access for patients and includes a new and upgraded gym. There will be four treatment rooms, a hydrotherapy room, as well as showers for the gym participants.

The all new Emergency Room will triple in size to the old facility.  The ER will include a walk-in area, three private exam rooms and a three bay trauma room.  The new building has also allowed for enlargement of the ambulance garage. The two bay garage also includes a decontamination area. 

Inpatient rooms display a homelike, comfortable atmosphere.  The six rooms will be equipped with flat panel televisions and face the lake for a beautiful view.

Three admissions offices create increased privacy for the patient as well as decrease the amount of "wait" time.

Two conference centers can be used for support groups, educational programs and administrative meetings. 

Bay Care Medical Center will be located within the hospital building.  The medical office touts fifteen exam rooms, six physician offices and two procedures rooms.  Electronic Medical Records have been implemented at Bay Care Medical.  Dr. Christine Krueger, Dr. Mark Gerold and PA Michelle Green see patients at Bay Care, Monday-Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  PA  Michael Johnson sees patients in the ER, Monday- Friday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.  See "Meet the Doctors" page for more information about our attending doctors.

The existing medical office building, now attached to the new facility, will house Dr. Said and several specialists.  MMH is proud to have a wide variety of physicians who have clinics throughout the month. Dr. Eppinga, Orthopaedic Surgeon is available every Thursday for consultation and surgery, Dr. Ulrickson, Ophthalmologist is available monthly for consultations and surgery and Dr. Bulinski, General Surgeon sees patients and has surgery several times per month.  Other visiting specialists include Dr. Vermeulen and Dr. Miky, for pain management and rehabilitation, Dr. Bohjanen, OB/GYN and Dr. Colligan, Orthopaedics.

Harbour View, a 20 bed Assisted Living built in 1999, is also located on campus.  See "Harbour View" page for more information. For those seniors that are not ready for assisted living, senior housing will be built.  The construction of six duplexes on the lake shore will begin in the Spring of 2008 which will complete the campus.  Plans for the 12 units are to be 2 bedroom, 1 bath home with a one car garage included.
